Why do you blog?

Dinner scenario at home is now slowly changing. Two weeks ago, my son was away for his sailing lesson. Last weekend, he went for a YAG cruise required by his being a sea cadet. I find that weeknights are slowly changing as well. If a few months ago we'd eat together at dinnertime, not anymore. My daughter goes to her piano lessons on Thursdays so I'm forced to do side trips for cooked food so she doesn't have to rush. Oh and many more in between.

So when I used to cook for dinner, sometimes I now blog and blog hop. Blogging is so fun. So how did I start blogging?

Rewind, a year and a half ago. I was looking for a recipe on the net and guess what? I found this blog originally known as the Radical Chef. What was impressive was that the cook was not only a good cook but also a lawyer. It used to be that whatever she had the night before would be our dinner the next day. I've literally watched her blog grow to what it is now. I have not met her personally as other bloggers have, like Jet and Jay but someday when I get to meet her, I am sure we'll have so many stories to share.

Sassy as I fondly call her (lifted from her journal) has at some point put on her sideblog a list of other Filipino Bloggers. One click did the trick and led me to Doc Emer's blog. Wow, so even a doctor has a blog! I would read comments on his posts and Tito Rolly, a teacher would be one of them. Curiosity killed the cat? Nope, the cat has nine lives and so Doc's blog led me to the rest.

The fun did not end there. I was able to become part of a Food blog circle. I've been to different kitchens, stealing recipes or exchanging ideas with them. We do cyber parties now too.

Starting was not easy. Blogging does require a lot of your time. Since I concentrated on my food blog, I made sure that I made a photo of everything I cooked, which made my family wait forever before they could start to taste my recipe. It's all right because they learned the art of anticipation and cooperation. They would prepare my camera while I am cooking and grab the appropriate plate or bowl so that all I need to do was just scoop into the plate or bowl what I cooked, take a picture and eat away.

Blogging is very rewarding. I've even met people from different countries like Mrs Tweety, Fish Fish and Obachan. But the most rewarding part of it all is I became part of this and I got a beautiful template for free from her.

It is intimidating at first. You don't know what to expect. But you know what? As long as you do your blog to your heart's content, you'll be fine.

It's your turn. Why do you blog?

hello sistah ting,

kaka-addict blog noh? i tried to stay away from it pero di ko kaya withdrawal symptoms...:). actually, i'm still musing over the psychology of blogging, mine especially, bakit nga kaya? will let you know the result of a potentially conflict-ridden deliberation of the issue between mahself, mois, me and my alter ego...:)

more fun!

i am not really a blog enthusiast pero napilitan na lang dahil sa aking web design interest. noong una, ginawa kong mannequin ang blog ko. tapos sulat ng konti so it won't look neglected. hindi ko akalain na may magkamaling bumisita doon dahil nga nonsense lang naman ang mga sinusulat ko. then come mommy ting, pinakilala niya ako sa ibang mga lukaret na katulad ko. ang mannequin blog turns out to become a real blog. but this doesn't mean it helps improve my writing skills. wala talaga akong talento para dito. pero di bale na, hindi naman ito ang habol ko kundi ang pag design :)

Mother Beng, some just have that talent of writing what they want to tell flawlessly, others have the eye of a metikulosa designer..me? i've got none of both but hey, I still enjoy blogging just because I meet wonderful people like you

hi ting! i have to say thank you to sassy din kasi na-inspire ako sa food blog n'ya. my bro introduced me to blogging in '99, but it never occurred to me to blog about food, tho' i've been journaling and taking pics of my food since the '80's pa -- hindi lang kasing-religiously. nagulat na lang ako ang dami na palang food blogger... since '98 i've been designing websites, but i don't know how the heck i missed the food blogging world completely.

Funny..you know I found Sassy a little intimidating noong araw but then when you get to know her, mabait pala.

She actually helped me when I first launched my food blog. She always featured me on her side blog. Magugulat na lang ako pag pumapasyal ako doon sa site niya na nandoon na naman yung aking recipe or whatever.

Parang, "ha, si attorney, napansin niya ako?". Eventually, I found out na she was also a good mom..hindi lang lawyer.

Hi Ting, it's not really surprising to see so many people started blogging because of Sassy. Ako rin, ganon. I googled Filipino Recipes and found her. Then it just dominoed from there. I'm glad to have found all the other food blogs like yours too. We inspire each other when we hit cooking block and don't know what to cook next :-)

I enjoyed that a lot Ting. Blogging does open up doors to wider and better perspectives, doesn't it? Pero alam mo Ting, what really struck me the first time I heard from you was how friendly you were and that remains evident up to this day. I'm really glad we got to know each other.

Hi Jet. Same here. I will never forget you because we share the same birth month and that's what will remind me of you.

on blogging....

Well well... It all started when the stomack needs some really tasty food... foods that we grew with.. I'm talking about FILIPINO FOOD ofcourse.. when we are out of the country and find loadz of different ways of preparing foods, we find some appetizing, some are disgusting, some are comforting foods.. and more.. we still crave for the foods that our tastebuds are accustomed to...in the height of nostalgia.. part of it is our stomack longing for pinoy foods! there it starts! as information are just in our fingertips, I search for pinoy recipes online! got sassy's ! Salute to sassy!!! then I started putting on some comments... then eventually.. gotto substitute some ingredients as to what are available here in Luanda, then modified some... mixed some european ways of preparing some foods.. I then said to myself... I should have a blog so that I can not what are the changes and how I succeeded and failed on some of the recipes... and since photography is my hubby... it inspired me to take gorgeous food pics... voila! there's the birth of my food blog.. became addicted to it... apparently.. now, i am hopping from one blog to another.. waiting for my laptop to be fixed, after it crashed! then i will difinitely post loads... ha haha...

Salute to Sassy and Ting!!!! Hats off!!!
